A FITTING festive scene has been unveiled as the countdown to Christmas reaches its final stages.

Earl Grey Tea Rooms, in Shambles, has designed a handmade cake which will sit in the window until Christmas Day as part of York’s Live Advent calendar.

The unique cake was made by the sister of the Earl Grey Tea Rooms’ co-owner, Clare Proctor.

Janet Pearce created the display’s centrepiece, which consists of a giant tea pot cake featuring tiny characters and mythical creatures.

The base comes in the shape of the tea room, and above that is a hollowed-out burrow showing a fairy house.

Tea cups are pouring tea on the outside, while a toy box, a work table with a rocking horse, a pram, little elephants and fairy beds are all dotted around the scene.

The Live Advent calendar, which is now in its final days, was organised to bring a festive spirit to York’s bars, shops and attractions.

The 23rd venue to unveil their window display will be Evil Eye Lounge, in Stonegate.
