FOUR hundred elderly residents have joined the Lord Mayor of York and the Civic Party for a Christmas Cheer reception.

The annual event, involving some festive fun and entertainment, took place at the Assembly Rooms over two sessions on one day earlier this week.

Guests were entertained with some festive carol singing by both school children and members of the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir, and enjoyed tea, coffee, sandwiches and mince pies.

The event is organised by the civic office every year, and supported by local businesses, which provide funds for the event and donations for a raffle held at the reception.
