SANTA Claus joined about 150 adults and children at Sherburn gala committee’s annual Christmas party.
The event, held at Elmet Social Club in Sherburn-in-Elmet, was really well attended, said committee member Myrtle Hall.
She said Father Christmas came and gave all children aged under 12 selection boxes or chocolate buttons.
She said the party marked the switching on of the village’s Christmas lights, which included a Christmas tree outside the Methodist Church in Low Street, and about 250 lights on lampposts and outside shops in streets including Kirkgate, Finkle Hill, Milford Road, Moor Lane and Low Street.
The Gala Committee has been celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, with Myrtle and her sister Alma Hodgson, who are founder members, presented with inscribed plaques in the spring.
