COFFEE shop giant Starbucks is closing one of its York branches next month, The Press has learned.

The shop, in Stonegate, is set to close on January 8, a member of staff at the branch has confirmed.

York Press:

The coffee chain has several other branches in York, including in Coney Street, at the Railway Station, at the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet and at Monks Cross Shopping Centre.

It previously had an outlet in Borders bookshop in Davygate, but that closed when Borders shut, and the firm also closed its branch in the Coppergate Centre last year.

A Starbucks spokesperson said: “Like many other retailers, and as part of the normal course of our business, we regularly review our stores to ensure they’re contributing to a strong business performance.

“Consequently, we have taken the difficult decision to close our Stonegate store in York in early January 2017 after being a part of the local community for 17 years.”
