TWELVE bus services will be saved from cuts after a survey of bus users in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The area’s council has set out plans to save more than £500,000 from its bus subsidies, but after a survey of people in the area, transport bosses are planning to reprieve 12 services, or parts of services, while going ahead with the remodelling or axing of nine.

The 196 service from Aughton to York will be kept but may run on a different day, under the new plans, and key journeys on the 45/46 service to York and Bridlington will also be retained.

Paul Bellotti, the East Riding’s head of transport said: “A great deal of work has gone into finding out what people’s transport needs are and we have listened to what they have to say and amended the proposals, where necessary.”

The council says the area has “an extensive network of demand responsive travel options” like community transport and voluntary car share schemes, which could replace the axed bus routes.

The full report and amended proposals can be found on the council’s website - www2.eastriding.gov.uk/council/committees/the-cabinet. Council cabinet members will be asked to approve revised plans at a meeting on Tuesday, December 13; as part of a push to save £60 million over four years due to reduced Government funding.
