STUDENTS at York College have found the perfect home for their dirty laundry.
Hairdressing and beauty students have collected 20 bin liners full of towels used for treatments in the York College training salons, to help staff at the Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary care for rescued seal pups.
Lia Bull, of Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary, said: “Our Sanctuary experts have a constant need for old towels which are used to wrap around seal pups when bottle feeding or treating them, and with all the saltwater and fish oil they do not last long. We were delighted when the college delivered 20 bags full – it’s a massive boost to our towel store.”
The donation came after student Alice Robinson, who lives in Scarborough, saw a large number of used towels in the college’s hair and beauty salons and suggested they could be used at the Seal Sanctuary.
Jayne Laverick, of York College, said: “Over time we accumulated so many towels which are no longer used in our training salons and treatment rooms. Students and staff had the idea of donating them to the Seal Sanctuary where they will be put to good use.
"We are delighted the towels will help the staff at the Sea Life Centre to care for rescued orphaned seal pups.”
