FAMILIES can watch the sky light up on Bonfire Night as venues around North Yorkshire host spectacular displays.

Tickets are still available for the majority of events in North Yorkshire and, with Bonfire Night falling on a Saturday this year, bumper crowds are expected to turn out.

Rawcliffe Country Park hosts one of the city’s largest displays, organised by the city’s fire fighters to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity. Gates open at 5.30pm and fair ground rides, a new feature for this year, will open a short time later. Tickets are available from fire stations across the city and The Press’ office in Walmgate.

York Maze - Its display is on Saturday evening from 4.30pm, and comes complete with a blazing bonfire, food stalls, live music and fireworks set to music. The bonfire will go up in flames at 7.30pm and the fireworks will begin 30 minutes later. - SOLD OUT

Bishopthorpe - The Ebor Inn pub, in Main Street, is organising a bonfire and firework display in the gardens of the venue. Turn up to see the bonfire lit at 7pm, with fireworks set off from 7.30pm. The pub is serving bonfire food and organising a raffle and tombola. Tickets cost £2.50 for adults and £1.50 for children.

Dunnington - The display and bonfire are on Eastfield Showfield on Saturday. Gates open at 4.30pm and the bonfire will be lit at 5.30pm. There will be quiet fireworks at 5.40pm, live music at 5.45pm, fireworks at 6.30pm and more live music at 6.45pm. Tickets are £8. See dunningtonfayre.org.uk/dunnington-bonfire/

Holgate - The Fox pub is hosting a bonfire this Saturday evening. Entry is free. There will be live music from 5pm and a barbecue.

York St John University - A free firework display will take place tonight to celebrate the university's 175th anniversary.
The display gets underway from 6.45pm and ends at 7.05pm.

There will be shuttle buses running from YSJU to Haxby road and back every 15 mins starting from 6.00pm onwards and run until 7.45pm

Poppleton - A bonfire, fireworks and hogroast can be found at The Poppleton Centre, in Main Street, from 5pm to 9pm on Saturday.

Tickets are £7 for adults and £3 for children aged 5 to 16.

They are available from The Poppleton Centre, Poppleton Post Office and Poppleton Cafe Refresh.

Selby - The annual bonfire and fireworks display takes place on Selby Community Centre field from 6pm. Rides and refreshments will be available during the evening and the bonfire will be lit by the Mayor of Selby, Cllr Steve Shaw-Wright at 6.30pm. The first set of fireworks will be lit at 7pm and followed by another set 30 minutes later.

Ripon - There will be a firework display and bonfire at Ripon Community Centre from 7pm on Friday, 4 November. Gates open at 5.30pm. Children aged under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

South Milford - The Cricket Club, in Mill Lane, has a display a week late, on Saturday, November 12.
