A QUIET corner of York is once again due to be taken over by creatures of the dark when a haunted house opens for Hallowe’en.

Steve Hagan, the creator of a purpose built haunted house in Wigginton, says this year’s attraction promises to be bigger and scarier than ever before.

The castle-like structure, with spooky-themed rooms and corridors, will be home to a creepy collection of live actors, projected holograms and animatronics, all performing to synchronised music and special lighting to raise funds for Help For Heroes.

Last year more than 700 people passed through its doors to raise over £1400 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Steve said: “Because of the success of last year there were some queues. This year we are having actors outside as well to entertain people.

“It’s popular because I make it so intense. Although it’s small there’s so much work that goes into it.”

The first half of the house is partly inspired by Resident Evil and the latter part has an evil carnival theme, he said.

Actors will be dressed as clowns and zombies.

Those who go in will also be given a panic word to shout for the lights to be turned on.

There will also be a graveyard scene outside, where people can have their pictures taken, Steve said.

The attraction is not suitable for under-sevens and under-13s need to be supervised.

Entry is free, and donations on exit will all go towards Help for Heroes.
