BOYBAND Union J are being lined up as the headline act for the town’s Christmas lights switch on next month, the Star understands.
The event will take place at Victoria Square on Saturday, November 19 and is set to include a mix of local artists and national performers.
Organisers at St Helens Council typically try to secure a headline act who appeal to a younger audience and Union J, who appeared in 2012’s X Factor, would fit that bill.
The group, who are playing a number of lights switch-ons across the country, consist of members Josh Cuthbert, JJ Hamblett, Jaymi Hensley and Casey Johnson.
Their debut studio album, Union J, followed in October 2013 and peaked at number six on the UK Albums Chart.
With the clock ticking down towards the event, some observers have suggested the council is leaving it late in the day to announce their line-up.
However, it is understood an announcement could be made early next week.
