PLANS to build hundreds of houses, a care home and a nursery have sparked strong objections.

Pocklington Town Council say they “strongly object” to Gladman Developments’ plans for 380 properties east of The Balk, revealed recently in The Press.

A town council spokesman said: “The site was not allocated for development in the East Riding of Yorkshire Council local plan.

“There are still existing housing allocations within the town and these should be brought forward first before a new site.

“Adding another 380 dwellings will have an impact on the town. In particularly for traffic. “Car journeys into town and along The Balk towards the Yorkway Motel (A1079 junction). A recent parking survey in the town has found that spare capacity at peak times is becoming an issue with at some times 91 per cent of the spaces being occupied.”

Residents have also raised their concerns with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Taryn Clarke said: “I have been to Willow Waters for many years - mainly due to the peace, quiet and tranquility that it offers.

“This development will undoubtedly affect this and also will bring more traffic to the area which I do not feel has the infrastructure to cope with.”

Carol Kershaw added: “We have been visitors to Willow Waters for over 25 years, and spent many peaceful holidays there.

“We feel that building so many houses would be a detriment to the area,as well as the town itself.

York Press:

“Pocklington is a lovely market town, but the parking is limited and there is rarely a vacant parking space available now, so you can imagine what all the influx of these extra people will do to area.”

If it is approved, the multi-million pound development would feature a new local centre with a children’s day nursery, convenience store and 60-bed care home. There would also be allotments, a skate park and a children’s play area.

Councillors will consider the plans in the coming weeks.
