YOUNGSTERS have been seeking out a spooky surprise in the gardens of York Art Gallery this half-term week.

Artist Garry Barker has installed his Tree Listening project, where ears of all shapes and sizes are growing in the Artist’s Garden and Edible Wood.

Gaby Lees, assistant curator of art (learning), said: “Something very strange has been happening at York Art Gallery; ears have started to appear in the gardens! How did they get there? Who could they belong to?

“All will be revealed at York Art Gallery. And that’s not all, shadowy figures will be taking over the studio as children create shadow puppets and window pictures to take home. Join us as we get into the Hallowe’en spirit at York Art Gallery this half term!”

Meanwhile, children can go inside and get creative in the gallery’s studio by making shadowy shapes and window pictures with transparent materials that they can take home. Mysterious Shadows runs until Sunday from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm.
