GIANT pumpkin growers displayed their prized fruit to York Maze for the North of England heat of the International Giant Pumpkin Competition.
The giant Hallowe’en symbols were also used as part of a carving competition at the York attraction, which is organising a host of spooky days out for families.
The winner was Peter Geyelin from Nottingham whose mammoth gourd weighed more than a baby elephant at 248kg and took the first prize of £500.
Runner up was Oliver Moorey from Helperby, North Yorkshire, with a respectable 239.5kg pumpkin and a prize of £250.
Tom Pearcy, from York Maze, said: “We had a good number of giant pumpkins in the competition this year.
“The winning pumpkin will now be handed over to acclaimed pumpkin carver Christian Russell who will spend the next two days carving it.”
The York Maze Hallowe’en Festival for families runs daily until Sunday, October 30, with more than 20 Halloween themed attractions, rides and shows.
