MALTON and Norton have renewed their status as Fairtrade towns.
The Fairtrade Foundation highlighted the Malton and Norton Fairtrade group’s involvement in community events and its new website.
Set up in March 2006, the group has since organised a series of events and involved members from businesses, local projects, councils and churches.
After canvassing shops, cafes, businesses, voluntary organisation and schools to pledge commitment to Fairtrade, Malton and Norton was awarded Fairtrade Town status in September 2008.
Since then they have been awarded renewal of Fairtrade Town status three times, with the latest review held this year.
Martine Green, who was part of the original group, said: "It is now eight years since we first became a Fairtrade Town and Malton and Norton Fairtrade group is delighted that it has had its Fairtrade town status confirmed by the Fairtrade Foundation."
Fellow member Janice Gwilliam added: "The Foundation was particularly impressed with our annual Christmas shop and craft fair, as well as our new website."
