A HEARTBROKEN York man has spoken of his devastation after his fiancée died suddenly at home.

Julian Herbert has been in shock since Chevonne Spaven died from a brain haemorrhage.

Miss Spaven, 40, suddenly became ill at the Poppleton home she shared with Mr Herbert.

The keen bikers were at home on September 21 when the mother-of-one collapsed.

She was taken to York Hospital and transferred to Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital, but never regained consciousness and her life-support machine was turned off two days later.

Mr Herbert, 46, who works in sheet metal, said his life had been turned upside down.

York Press:

“It has devastated my world,” he said.

“I proposed four months ago in the Isle of Man and now I’m going to be spreading her ashes.

“It makes it worse that it was so sudden.

“We had so many plans for the wedding and this is devastating.”

The couple had been together for six years and were enthusiastic motorcyclists.

Ms Spaven passed her motorcycle test in 2003 and would often go to bike rallies and to the Isle of Man with Mr Herbert.

They regularly attended the Isle of Man TT Races and hundreds of bikers turned up to Miss Spaven’s funeral at York Crematorium to pay their respects.

Around 200 motorcycles joined in the procession along Tadcaster Road, Poppleton Road and Knavesmire before arriving at the crematorium.

Mr Herbert added: “It was good to see so many of them.

“As the hearse pulled into the crematorium the bikers followed around then gave her a round of applause. I put a request on Facebook and that was the result. A couple had even come up from Bristol.”

A collection at the funeral raised £1,000 which will be donated to Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
