A MAN has been arrested following a North Yorkshire crash which killed a woman in her eighties.

The crash happened at about 10am and involved a silver Skoda Fabia and a white van on the northbound carriageway of the A19, at the junction with the A684 near Northallerton.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said the driver of the Skoda died at the scene, and the driver of the van was taken to hospital with injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.

The northbound carriageway was closed for several hours with diversions in place.

The spokeswoman said the driver had been arrested in connection with the crash, and appealed to anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the crash or has dashcam footage of the scene to contact them.
