MALTON & Norton RUFC are targeting derby delight tomorrow after finally getting off the mark in North One East.

Their exciting 25-21 victory at Dinnington last weekend came not before time, the team having increasingly shown in their previous four league and cup outings that a win was just around the corner.

The result lifted them off the foot of the table and next up is the visit of East Yorkshire rivals Driffield tomorrow (3pm), a side with two wins and two defeats.

Malt spokesman Bill Laidler reckons the pack can match anyone else in this division, and is excited by the pace among the backs too.

"The victory which has been in touching distance in recent weeks finally became reality," he said of the Dinnington result.

"The pack have been together as a unit for three seasons now and are a match for anyone they encounter. Ben Boothman, Liam Vaughan and Jim Thornton form the basis of this department but the other five, well backed up by more-than-capable replacements, provide the perfect platform.

"The backs are now beginning to gel as a unit and certainly have great finishers in Blake Spencer and Mbembe Payi.

"Hopefully, it will all come together for the derby against Driffield at The Gannock."

Pocklington and Percy Park are two more teams with two wins and two defeats to date, and they meet at Feathers Field tomorrow.

As for Pock, who sit fourth on points difference, they continue to have competition for places across the field, but are likely to be without big wing Tim Nixon.

Colts starlet Jonty Peters, younger brother of second-row Tom, comes into the 20-man squad along with forwards Matt Davies and Johnny Wood.

In Yorkshire One, York and Selby both face tough assignments.

The former, pegged back in a draw with Hullensians last week, go to early pacesetters Bridlington, the only team left with a 100 per cent record after four league games.

Selby, who fell 35-20 to Brid last week, now face the team in second, in West Leeds, narrow victors at Scarborough last week.

In Yorkshire Four, York RI go to fellow mid-table side Burley.
