A HAIRDRESSER from York is vying for the Miss England title and is appealing for people to support her.

Camilla Garnham, who is 20, is one of 14 contestants competing in the first Miss England semi-final heat for 2017.

The public vote is underway and acts as one of the panel judges. To secure a place in the semi-finals, held in June next year, Camilla needs public support before voting lines close.

To help attract more attention, Camilla hopes to raise awareness and funds for the Miss World Charity ‘Beauty with a Purpose’.

The judging panel will decide who is the most photogenic and has promoted themselves and the charity the most, including gaining votes through the public vote.

The top three contestants in the public vote by the closing date, along with two judges’ choices, will then be shortlisted for a final interview by telephone.

At least one winner will then be selected for the Miss England Semi final.

“The competition is about being beautiful inside and out, we are not just looking for a pretty face,” says Miss England national director Angie Beasley.

The ultimate winner of Miss England 2017 will spend her year raising awareness for various charities and will receive prizes worth £30,000, including a luxury holiday and a place in Miss World 2017 which has a prize worth £100,000 for the international winner. Miss World then becomes a global charity ambassador for the year as her role.

In the last three years more than £800,000 has been raised by Miss England contestants to help disadvantaged children around the UK.
