CLASSIC car enthusiasts are gearing up to drive 2,000 miles in their vintage vehicle to raise money for charity.

Alek and Wendy Krstenic, from near Pocklington, will be entering Club Triumph’s Round Britain Reliability Run (RBRR) with their 1968 Triumph-based RMB Gentry Roadster.

It is the first time the couple have entered the event, which is held every two years, with 2016 being its 50th anniversary.

This year’s event, from October 7 to 9, will raise funds for the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Alek, 52, and Wendy, 46, will be one of about 130 teams, made up of Triumph car enthusiasts, who will attempt to drive 2,000 miles in just 48 hours.

The route will take them from Knebworth in Hertfordshire to John o’ Groats in the far north of Scotland.

They will then head to Land’s End in Cornwall via Wales, and back to Knebworth.

Alek said: “We’re really looking forward to it.

“I’ve been building up to it for a few years.

“ Dani llersI wanted to do it four years ago but I didn’t think our car could do it.

“I have done the suspension and repaired everything. It’s running how it should be. I’ve taken it on long distance drives.

“I hope we finish. Who knows what could happen?

“There’s very few that don’t make it.”

During the run, the only stops are compulsory checkpoints, so while one team member is driving the other is either navigating or sleeping.

The event is not a race, but an endurance run to test navigation skills and reliability of the Triumph cars.

Each team is aiming raise at least £600 for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Alek and Wendy recently attended Club Triumph’s drivers meeting in Gaydon, Warwickshire, which featured a talk about the charity.

“The event is for a fabulous cause,” Alek said.

“I was flabbergasted how much they spend training these dogs and how many dogs don’t make it and they have to re-home.”

Their Gentry Roadster is a kit car based on a 1968 Triumph Herald.

The RBRR was first held in 1966.

Since the 1990’s it has been raising money for good causes.
