A DRINKER who fractured another drinker’s jaw with a single punch has been ordered to pay the victim £500 compensation.
Andrew Gamble, 38, and the victim were strangers to each other, said Louise Pryke, prosecuting.
They were with separate groups in Revolution in Coney Street at 9.40pm on April 30 when the victim told bar staff a man was badgering his group and Gamble hit him, making him fall to the floor.
Gamble, of High Street in Eastrington, East Yorkshire, near Selby, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and was ordered to do 60 hours’ unpaid work and pay £500 compensation. He had no previous convictions, York Crown Court heard.
Andrew Stranex, defending, said the punch was completely out of character and Gamble bitterly regretted it. He had found the court process a hard lesson.
The lawyers spoke to the judge in chambers before the hearing about part of Gamble’s mitigation, which was not made public.
