POLICE investigating an attack on two mini buses carrying York City fans following their game away to Barrow AFC on Saturday have now made a six arrests.

Three 15-year-old boys from the Barrow area have been arrested in the past wo days hours. They too have been bailed until a later date.

The attack is believed to have taken place shortly after 5pm in the A590 Walney Road, in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.

Two men were taken to hospital with cuts to the head and face. They have since been discharged.

As well as the two 15-year-old boys, a man aged 22, another boy aged 15, and a 14-year-old boy, who are all from the Barrow area, have also been arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.

Cumbria Constabulary chief inspector Dave Bosson said: "This was a cowardly and deplorable incident and we are urging anyone who witnessed what happened or has any information which may assist us to call in.

"Thankfully this type of behaviour is extremely rare, which makes it all the more shocking. I’m sure all football fans in the Barrow area and beyond will join me in saying this type of incident is indefensible and we will do everything possible to ensure those responsible are held accountable for their actions."

All five of those arrested have been bailed with conditions which include not entering an exclusion zone around Barrow AFC’s home ground, preventing them from attending any games while investigations are on-going.

The bail conditions also mean they cannot go into any licensed premises between 11am and 7pm on the day of a Saturday Barrow AFC home fixture or between 5pm and 11pm on the evening of a mid-week Barrow AFC home fixture. They are also precluded from associating with each other.

One mini bus that was attacked was from Tower Travel in York and the other was from Malc Collins Mini Coaches Ltd in Selby.

Mr Collins released three of the four pictures above to The Press on Sunday.

He said: "I'm not sure how close to the ground they were. All I know was they were heading away and were sort of ambushed.

"Obviously they [the offenders] must know the route police take the away fans out by, and it seems like it was a well-planned ambush from what I have been told."

Daniel Donnor, from Tower Travel, said: "It is utterly despicable behaviour.

"The coach was a carrying a group of people, including families.

"It happened about half a mile from the football ground. Half a brick and rubble was used to throw at the vehicle."

He added: "We have been carrying York City fans for about nine years and there's never been any trouble."

Tower Travel sent another mini bus to Barrow to pick up its passengers.

A club statement on Sunday from Barrow AFC said: “Immediately following the game with York City, there was a serious incident involving persons causing damage to a visiting supporters vehicle and resulting in significant personal injury.

"Barrow AFC have received a report from Cumbria Police and understand that two people have been arrested so far.

"There will be meetings between the police and club officials this week to review the situation, and will issue a joint statement at that time.

"Mindless acts of violence have no place in our community, and it is hoped that the continuing efforts of the club, the police, and the 99.999% of Barrow AFC supporters to provide a safe environment to allow all attendees to enjoy a special experience at Furness Building Society Stadium, will be embraced by the wider community as a whole.

"Barrow AFC apologises to those who have experienced distress from the actions of those who have no place in our football club, and wish a speedy and full recovery to those injured in any way.”
