A SCHOOL bus was taken off the roads after an inspection found it to be unsafe.

Police officers pulled the double-decker over in Bramham after it dropped children off at Tadcaster Grammar School on Thursday and a spot check revealed defects.

The Road Policing Group stopped the bus as part of Traffic Information System Police (TISPOL) Road Safety Week, and when it was inspected by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) it was deemed a broken seat handle could cause injury to passengers.

York Press:

The DVSA issued the operator with a delayed prohibition notice, which requires the defect to be fixed and the vehicle to pass an MOT within five days.

TISPOL Road Safety Week also saw more than 100,000 drivers across Europe pledge to take more care on the roads as part of Project EDWARD.

The campaign called on people across Europe to drive and ride safer to ensure nobody died on the roads on September 21.
