RESIDENTS in York have joined forces with a house building firm to fill and bury a time capsule at a new housing development.

After receiving almost 100 submissions from schools, residents, former factory workers and historians, David Wilson Homes invited a handful of contributors to the burial of the time capsule at The Chocolate Works development, in Campleshon Road, in South Bank.

Submissions included drawings from local pupils as well as memorabilia and photographs from former factory workers.

Paul Hogan, sales director at David Wilson Homes, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support and interest we have had from the local community and further afield.

"The Chocolate Works is a pioneering design, so we’re not surprised that it’s been well received. We are very proud to be working so closely with the community to help celebrate the site’s rich history.

“We weren’t expecting to receive so many entries, but it’s fantastic to see how many memories there are of the factory across the city, especially as even youngsters from local schools have shared their thoughts.

“The project spans the generations and it’s this that really makes this project special. We’ve even had a submission from as far away as New Zealand, demonstrating just how far the news of the development’s new lease of life has spread.”
