MORE than 2,000 people flocked to an adrenaline-filled family fun day, which raised money for charity and proved to be a knockout success.

The new event, called It's a Pockout, inspired by the BBC’s It’s a Knockout, was held at Pocklington Rugby Club on Bank Holiday Monday.

TV star Keith Chegwin hosted the fun-packed afternoon of It's a Knockout-style games, where ten teams battled inflatable obstacles, soapy foam and lots of water.

Crowds of spectators enjoyed the trade stands, bouncy castle and food and drink options, while watching the contestants fight their way through the assault course.

Organiser Pocklington District Lions has hailed the event a huge success.

Richard Knill, a member of the Lions club, said: "It was beyond our expectations, the weather made it particularly good. The public supported it extremely well."

Fellow club member Graham Gillyon added: "Thank you to all the local businesses who supported the event, the fearless teams of competitors and everyone who attended the day and helped to make the event so special for the Lions."

The games started after a procession from Pocklington’s Market Place, headed up by ‘Cheggers’, The City of York Pipe Band, Pocklington town crier Geoff Sheasby, the town mayor, councillor David Sykes, and 'Pocko', the Lions club's mascot.

Funds raised from the event will be donated to Heart Research UK, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Mencap, Macmillan Cancer Support and The MS Society.

Due to the huge success of the fun day, the Lions club is planning to hold the event again next year, on August 28.
