A MOTORIST has been arrested after a pedestrian died in an accident on a North Yorkshire road on Sunday.
North Yorkshire Police said the driver, a man in his 20s from Selby, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving on the A19 just south of Brayton, near Selby.
He was released on bail on Monday.
A spokesman said the pedestrian was a local man aged 43.
He said the collision between the pedestrian and a Vauxhall Corsa car happened at 8.29am.
The road remained closed in both directions untli about 2pm while the accident was investigated.
The spokesman said: "A formal identification of the deceased man has yet to take place and North Yorkshire Police is not yet in a position to confirm his identity."
Police would like anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anything significant in the moments leading up to it to contact them.
