YOUNGSTERS who were supported by a York charity have tidied up a garden at sheltered accommodation.
The gardeners are part of Enable, a project that brings together young people who had used the Safe and Sound Housing (SASH) scheme and older people who need a helping hand.
SASH is a supported-lodgings charity, which helps young people facing the risk of homelessness.
The young people are challenged to complete tasks, like decorating and gardening, identified by the council’s 60 plus housing specialist service.
Cllr David Carr, leader of City of York Council, said: “Over the last two years the scheme has been an innovative solution, providing skills and experience, materials and improvements to vulnerable people’s homes.
Adele Coupe, operations manager at SASH, said: “They all work so hard on the makeovers and get such a lot out of them: they get skills, experience and the confidence that comes with giving others a helping hand.”
