YORK Minster is to host a sport-themed service this month to celebrate the inaugural Global Congress on Sport and Christianity at York St John University.
The cathedral is throwing open its doors on Friday, August 26, from 7.30pm to recognise the meeting, which will see athletes, practitioners, academics, Christian leaders and administrators come together to speak about sport and faith.
The Rt. Revd Nick Baines, Bishop of Leeds, will deliver a sermon, while the event will also feature interviews with ex-paralympian Anne-Wafula Strike MBE and ex-Premiership footballer Linvoy Primus MBE.
Graham Daniels, director of Christians in Sport, will lead the prayers.
Keynote speakers at the event include world-leading theologians Professors Robert Johnston and John Swinton and Revd John Boyers, the Chaplain of Manchester United Football Club for the last 25 years.
