A SELL-OUT performance of rock opera Quadrophenia helped raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Last month, The York All Stars performed Pete Townshend and The Who’s legendary album at York Grand Opera House, and raised a total of £6,434.07. The concert was set up by Supermodels band member Dave Sykes in memory of his friend Ian Hodgkinson, who died from cancer at the age of 54.

Mr Sykes said the production was “a real labour of love”, but he could not have done it alone.

He said: “The contributions from all the musicians and technical crew made the show the incredible success it was.

“We were inspired to create something special in memory of a great friend, and what better way to do that than contribute the show’s profits to Macmillan Cancer Support, an amazing organisation that ensured our friend, and his family, didn’t face his illness alone.”

A cheque for the funds was presented to Macmillan Cancer Support at York Hospital on Friday. Hayley Cooke, Macmillan’s fundraising manager, thanked everyone involved for their support.
