PRIZE money for next month's Ebor Festival at York racecourse has risen to a record sum of £4m.

French derby winner Almanzor is lined-up for a showdown with both Wings of Desire and The Grey Gatsby in the £900,000 Juddmonte International - which will be the richest ever race staged on the Knavesmire.

Minding, the 1000 Guineas and Epsom Oaks winner, is still listed in the next stage of entries announced yesterday, but his involvement is likely to rest on success or failure in Saturday's Qatar Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.

North Yorkshire trainer Karl Burke, meanwhile, has withdrawn Quiet Reflection from the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes but there are still a string of eye-catching entries in the £350,000 sprint including Acapulco and Lady Aurelia, who are both trained by the American Wesley Ward. Twilight Son, trained by Henry Candy, is another withdrawal from the Nunthorpe.

The Darley Yorkshire Oaks, on the second day of the festival, could still involve the first three horses in the Oaks namely Minding, Architecture, and Harlequeen.

There are Group One races on each of the three week days of the four day festival which starts on Wednesday August 17.

Meanwhile, the nine day 'Go Racing In Yorkshire' Summer Festival - which included York's popular Music Showcase Weekend - attracted over 100,000 people.

Mark Johnston emerged as leading trainer in the festival while PJ McDonald narrowly pipped Franny Norton to the leading jockey title.

Journalist David Yates completed a cycling challenge of 430 miles, from course to course throughout the festival, in memory of Ray Gilpin.
