YORK City manager Jackie McNamara will mix youth and experience in tonight's friendly at Harrogate Town.

Speaking after last night's home defeat by League Two side Doncaster Rovers, McNamara confirmed that a number of younger players will make their debuts.

Striker Richard Brodie will also start after sitting out the last two games.

Former York player Matty Blair scored Doncaster's winner in a 2-1 defeat for the Minstermen last night but McNamara felt it had been another good work-out despite a second defeat in four days.

"There was some good stuff. We caused ourselves problems in the first half but, over the piece, there were some good performances and it was a good work out," he said.

"When we do things quick and move the ball, we look a good side.We looked solid and shape wise, the three at the back, has suited us so far."

Although tonight's game against Harrogate gives York an opportunity to try out the same type of 3G playing surface they will encounter in the opening game of the National League season at Maidstone United, McNamara revealed that York have also been invited to train on it next week.

"All being well, we will train on the pitch next week as well," he said. "Hopefully, we will go there next Thursday and set the team-up for Saturday's game. We will speak nicely to them tonight!"

Defender Matty Fry (ankle) missed last night's game but should be involved tonight.

"There are a few lads who needs a game," he said. "Matty Dixon has missed the last few with a thigh, Brodie will get as close to 90 minutes, Reece Thompson, Danny Galbraith, and a few young lads will make their debut from the Academy.

"We will give them a taste and see how they handle the physicality of playing Harrogate."

Ben Clappison limped off with a jarred hip last night but McNamare feels he will have recovered for the weekend friendly at home to Newcastle United.

Midfielder Taron Hare, meanwhile, released by York at the end of last season, has joined National League rivals North Ferriby United.
