A NEW service has launched in Selby to help socially isolated residents.

Mind, the mental health charity, has launched its befriender service in the town, following a successful introduction in York, which has helped hundreds of people.

Hannah Hessle said there were two elements to the support available. She said: “On one hand we have one to one befriending support where people who are isolated socially can refer to us due to mental health and get matched with volunteer befriender with similar interests and hobbies.

“People can also interact with a variety of groups focussing on self esteem, confidence and resilience when dealing with setbacks and that kind of thing. These are small groups where people can come and learn more about where anxiety comes from and how to manage it.”

Hannah will be at Selby Market on Monday, August 8, with an information stall, and calling for volunteers to take part.
