A MAN who was arrested after a police chase ended in a three-vehicle crash in York has been released on bail.
The crash happened at the junction of Barbican Road and Paragon Street, near the Barbican Centre, at about 3.30pm on Monday.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said officers were chasing a blue Ford Focus which had been reported for failure to stop at the scene of a previous collision at about 3.20pm.
Officers followed the Focus along Hull Road and towards Paragon Street, where the vehicle was in collision with a black Mercedes and a silver Ford S-Max.
A 46-year-old local man was arrested at the scene for failure to stop, and later taken into police custody.
On Tuesday, a police spokesman said the man had also been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs, dangerous driving and obstructing a police officer.
He has since been released on bail.
Police, firefighters and ambulances were called to the scene, and heavy traffic built up for several hours after the crash.
The Press understands two young children were passengers in one of the damaged vehicles, but were not believed to have been injured in the incident.
