EVERYTHING David Craven says is correct (Letters, July 16).
That is why Green Lane Growers - a group from Green Lane allotments - are creating a wildlife oasis in the middle of Acomb.
With the help of City of York Council’s allotment officer, we are planting fruit trees and creating a meadow area. We also have a small copse of native trees.
Both bat and bird boxes are in use and bird feeders are topped up, winter and summer.
The two beehives we have make sure our fruit and veg are pollinated.
Some areas are left natural so plants like nettles, rosebay willowherb and cow parsley can thrive. These a valuable food plants for insects.
Already, the rewards have been fantastic.
Malcolm Foster, Assistant secretary, Gladstone Street, Acomb, York
