A TEAM of more than 20 cyclists from a York school have taken part in a 170-mile ride for charity.
Thirteen Year Nine pupils and nine members of staff from Queen Margaret’s School in Escrick were joined by a pupil from a Project Mala school in India to take part in the Way of the Roses cycling challenge, from Morecambe to Bridlington.
The team took part in the coast to coast ride over four days this month, to raise money to buy more than 100 bikes to help pupils attend local schools in India.
Quentin Sands, Queen Margaret’s, said: “The girls trained for the ride on the flat roads around Escrick during their lunchtimes in the summer term, so the hills of Lancashire and Yorkshire came as a bit of a shock.
“Fortunately, the weather was good and the team enjoyed fair winds from the west, pushing them towards their destination.”
