ENJOYING reading the Julia Donaldson books with my child each night and seeing reviews for the Tiddler production at the Great Yorkshire Fringe, I was looking forward to seeing Scamp Theatre's show on Sunday.

The set-up of the White Rose Rotunda spiegeltent was good for a temporary space and the offer of booster seats for children a nice addition, so everyone could see what was happening on stage.

Joseph Carey, Gethin Alderman and Leonie Spilsbury's use of everyday objects for props to tell the stories was inventive and the musical aspect entertaining. The adaptation of A Squash And A Squeeze and The Smartest Giant In Town went down really well with there being more going on and, what appeared to be, an easier adaptation of the stories.

Overall, the show would have done well to have lent itself to a little more audience interaction to get the children, and adults, more involved and keep them engaged for the whole hour. Unfortunately, from a parent’s point of view of someone who enjoys reading the stories too, I was left a little underwhelmed by the production as a whole. The ending and other aspects felt a bit rushed and some of the props and stage set-up could have been better presented and utilised.
