THE University of York has named 13 people who will receive honorary degrees next week.
They include Helen Fielding, the Bridget Jones author and screenwriter; former Yorkshire MP Lord Hague; the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Rowan Williams; and the actress Helen McCrory.
The presentations will be made next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Other recipients are Lord Victor Adebowale, charitable campaigner and CEO of Turning Point; educators Tony Cann and Professor Sir John Holman; medical ethical lawyer Professor Sir Ian Kennedy; ballerina Marguerite Porter; and scientists Dr Patrick Vallance, Professor David L Heymann, Comendador Augusto Sampaio and Professor Tieniu Tan.
The University confers honorary degrees each year on a small number of people who have made a significant contribution to society. Honorary graduates are selected from nominations. by members of the University
