THIS group of students have all been awarded student of the year titles in recognition of their personal and academic achievements throughout the last year.

The York College awards nominated Callum Moran as A-Level student of the year – Callum Moran

Formerly of Snaith School, Goole, Callum studied A-Levels in government and politics, economics, law and maths and has an offer to study law at Cambridge University. His tutors say he has been fully committed to all aspects of college life and a pleasure to teach.

Former Joseph Rowntree School pupil Amy Mook was named vocational student of the year. Amy studied the level 2 employability, training and personal development. Amy worked hard on her course, even completing an extended project qualification. She also supported others outside of college and was awarded three Lord Mayor of York Shine Awards.

Adult student of the year went to Leanne Willoughby who studied the access to healthcare course and came to college to follow her dreams of becoming a nurse. Through adversity she has continued on the course with high attendance. Throughout the year she also supported the college; volunteering for open events.

Functional skills student of the year went to Jami Belile who studied the level 3 extended diploma in health and social care and GCSE maths. Alongside her main programme, Jami found studying GCSE maths very challenging and lacked confidence - she did not particularly enjoy the subject. Over the year Jami through sheer hard work and effort she managed to turn her studies around, She was unfortunately unable to attend the Student of the Year presentation ceremony.

College principal, Alison Birkinshaw presented the students with a trophy.

She said: “Each student has an exceptional reason to win this accolade. Whilst at the college they have been positive role models and have embraced every opportunity.”
