PAST pupils of a former York school and members of the local community will get a last chance to look around the site during a fun-packed music festival tomorrow.

‘Re:generation’, at Burnholme Community Hub, formerly Burnholme Community College, in Bad Bargain Lane, is being held to celebrate the history of the site.

The free festival will include music from local bands and artists, music workshops and activities, sport tasters and displays from noon to 9pm.

Re:generation is the final opportunity to see the current building before redevelopment takes place. There are plans to convert it into a health and well-being campus, with a doctors’ surgery and care home.

Tang Hall Smart Community Interest Company (CIC), which is helping to organise the festival, will be moving to the rear of the site later this year with other users in readiness for demolition and building works to the front.

Sue Williamson, founder and managing directorof Tang Hall Smart, which aims to improve well-being through music, said: The festival is called Re:generation to symbolise not only the way the site is being developed but also how its future is for all generations. “It was a very sad day when the school closed in 2014, and there is definitely still sadness around due to the loss of such a lovely school, but something really positive has come out of the last two years.

“I am delighted that by 2018 there will be a cafe, library, doctors surgery, care home and sports provision, in addition to the community and enterprise section that ourselves and the nursery will move into.”

Louise Ramsey, site project manage, said: Since the closure of the Burnholme Community College in summer 2014, the community groups and sports teams have continued to make full use of the facilities available and we have welcomed hundreds of local people to enjoy a vast range of activities on the site.

“We are commencing delivery of our exciting vision for the future, which will secure a community-focused facility for local residents. We are delighted to be able to support this innovative event which will celebrate the history of the site.”

Tang Hall Smart is organising the event with support from City of York Council.
