A CHARITY could team up with a school in Pocklington to relaunch a youth club in the town.

Young People Count says it is still considering a number of options, including the creation of a new centre at Woldgate School where youngsters could meet up and socialise. The charity has recently held informal talks with Woldgate about running a youth club at the school.

Pocklington used to have a youth centre, on New Street, which closed in 2013. The building was owned by East Riding Council but was sold to a developer and is currently being converted into housing.

Since then Young People Count has been formed to support young people aged 11 to 18 in the Pocklington area.

The charity has run a youth club from a pub in Pocklington in the past and even a bus which parked up on West Green.

Young People Count is set to receive a £48,000 grant from “commuted sums” given to East Riding of Yorkshire Council by developers and builders. This funding would need to go towards a new building when it finds a plot of land. It has also saved £21,500.

Jonathan Britton, headteacher at Woldgate, said: "We are working to create a new centre on site with Young People Count. This will include the creation of new facilities in a purpose built building. We hope if discussions are productive, to submit joint plans in the New Year."
