A MAN has been arrested by immigration officials following reports of a raid in York.
Immigration Enforcement officers said they were acting on intelligence when they visited a residential address in Fishergate at about 7.30am today.
They arrested a 24-year-old Brazilian man who had overstayed his visit visa, the Home Office said.
He has been transferred to immigration detention pending removal from the UK.
Anita Bailey, deputy director for Immigration Enforcement North, said: “We will continue to take action against those who are in the country illegally.
“We would urge members of the public with detailed and specific information about immigration offending to contact us.”
Immigration Enforcement is an operational directorate within the Home Office responsible for enforcing immigration law.
