NAKED cyclists staged a protest against cars during the 11th World Naked Bike Ride around the streets of York.

Around 80 cyclists stripped off to raise awareness of three issues close to their hearts.

The first protested against the number of cars dominating shared roads, while cyclists were also keen to show how unprotected they are as they pedal through the city by taking their clothes off.

John Cossham, who took part in the ride, said: "We take our clothes off to show how vulnerable we are but we are just as vulnerable in our lycra.

"We also show how our lives are dominated by fossil fuels, but this shows how we don't need them because we have bikes."

Cyclists also staged a "die in" by lying on the ground to pay their respects to the 79 riders who have died on Britain's roads in the last 12 months.
