A national food retailer could open a new restaurant on the outskirts of Pocklington, and another food retailer may open a store on the same site, the Press can reveal.

There are plans to expand the service station, called 'Pocklington Services', off the A1079, and the restaurant and store would be part of the station.

The Brookfield Group, owner of the station, has told the Press that it is “in negotiations with a number of parties” regarding the site next to the Starbucks drive-through, and that there are “a lot of people interested.”

Aziz Patel, from the Brookfield Group, added: "We want to get the right brands and the right offer for the town.

"We are looking at national and regional brands."

Mr Patel said it is possible the restaurant could be a drive-through. He said the plans could lead to the creation of a number of new jobs for the Pocklington area.

Pocklington Services, a £2million service station, officially opened in September 2014, and the Starbucks drive-through opened last December.

The services. which includes a Subway store, a Costa Express, a Nisa Local convenience store and a Fresh Bake bakery, and the Starbucks store have already created about 40 jobs in total for the Pocklington area.
