ANOTHER primary school in the west of York is considering becoming an academy.

Woodthorpe School joins Acomb Primary in wanting to opt out of local authority control and join the South Bank Multi Academy Trust (MAT).

Governors at the school have begun a consultation period with a proposal of joining the South Bank MAT which currently comprises Knavesmire Primary, Scarcroft Primary and Millthorpe Secondary School.

Woodthorpe head James McGann, said: “As a school we are always looking at ways to improve the education that we provide for our pupils and, after exploring many different options, it was felt that the South Bank Multi Academy Trust offers an exciting opportunity and one worth considering in more depth.

“By joining this MAT we would be able to keep our unique identity while being part of a local group of school who are able to support one another.”

They will be listening to the views of the school community over the coming weeks and will make a decision on whether or not to join after this consultation period.
