THE SACRIFICE made by British soldiers 100 years ago were brought home to pupils on a trip to France.
Pupils from Barlby High School travelled to France on a four-day cultural visit to practise and improve their French and their knowledge of our historical links with France.
As well as visiting a local market, a sweet factory and a traditional bakery, they spent a day in the battlefields of the Somme to remember British soldiers who fell in the First World War.
They also visited German and British war cemeteries and walked in the trenches of the British front line.
Diane Basseux, the school’s head of modern languages, who led the visit, said: “The students loved the cultural activities, and visiting the battlefields and trenches brought home to them the sacrifice that so many soldiers made for our country a hundred years ago.”
The students pictured were chosen for their outstanding behaviour, thirst for knowledge and team spirit.
