HORRIBLE Histories author Terry Deary will be joining Eboracum Baroque to act as narrator at Saturday's performance of Henry Purcell's semi-opera King Arthur in York.

As the name would suggest, Eboracum Baroque was founded in York when director Chris Parsons was studying at the University of York in 2012 "All the members are young professional players at the start of their careers," says Chris, ahead of this weekend's concert at the National Centre for Early Music. "We try to return to York as often as we can but with everyone across the whole of the country it can be tricky at times."

King Arthur will be performed on period instruments, such as harpsichord, natural trumpets and baroque strings. "We really hope it will attract a young audience and introduce them to classical music," says Chris. "This is some of Purcell’s greatest music that he ever wrote, sung and performed by some of the top young professional singers and instrumentalists in the UK, with Terry Deary guiding the audience through the evening."

Tickets for the 7pm to 9.30pm performance are on sale at £15, students and children £5, at ticketsource.co.uk/eboracumbaroque or on 01904 658338 or by emailing eboracumbaroque@gmail.com

"So come and hear the famous tale of King Arthur complete with singing warriors and magical spirits," says Chris. "We would love to perform to a good house."
