CUSTOMERS and staff at Tesco at Askham Bar have raised more than £24,000 for the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK, in just over a year.
Tesco's national charity partnership lasts for three years, but in the 16 months so far the Askham Bar shop has regularly been in the top 10 best performing stores across the country.
Events have included tombolas and staff raffles, bucket collections, and the annual Easter Sunday car boot sale at Askham Bar.
Megan Senior, fundraising manager for the national charity partnership said: “The commitment shown by Tesco colleagues in York to involve their customers and fundraise for this cause is truly inspiring.
"Type 2 diabetes can increase a person’s risk of heart and circulatory disease and there are currently millions of people in England at increased risk of developing both. We’re working together with Tesco customers to help make a difference and help millions of people to lower their risk of both."
In total the 500 Tesco stores across the country have raised £10 million for the charity partnership so far.
