YOUNGSTERS at a York pre-school braved the showers for a charity toddle.

This year is the 150th anniversary of the children's charity Barnardo's and the rain on the day did not stop the intrepid youngsters of The Mount Pre-School from their annual fundraising Big Toddle.

This year's theme was Wild Animals and the two to four-year-olds dressed up in animal costumes to walk around the Quaker school's playing fields, spotting special 'wild animal' pictures that were dotted along the route and marking them off a check-list.

Janine Tanner, head of the Busy Bee, two to three-year-olds, said: "The rain is not dampening anyone's spirits this morning. The children are very excited and because this is York they are used to going out in all weathers.

"We are just starting looking at wild animals so it's a fun way for the children to combine their topic work with an adventure."

After the walk, the children, staff and accompanying parents enjoyed a snack.
