THE Sitting Room Comedy Club returns to the Monkbar Hotel in York next Thursday with an 8pm bill of cheeky storyteller Jimmy McGhie, support acts Chris Martin and Amy Gledhill and compère Scott Bennett.

"As seen on Russell Howard’s Good News, Jimmy McGhie is a highly regarded stand-up and comic performer and is one of the Comedy Store's most popular headliners," says promoter Tom Taylor. "He was voted Best International Act at the Perth Comedy Festival, and it’s a privilege to welcome Jimmy to York as this month’s headliner.

“Clever and personal, Jimmy was great on Good News and put in some fab performances on BBC Three’s Live At The Electric as well. He’ll also be a familiar voice to any fans of The Dave Gorman Radio Show, which he co-hosts with Dave.”

Chris Martin

Another Comedy Store headliner, Chris Martin, opens the June 2 show. "It’s a real treat to have Chris on the same bill as Jimmy. I gigged with Chris in London and really loved his set," says fellow comedian Tom. "A keen observer who uses uniquely twisted logic to tackle ‘earth-shattering’ problems, he's a great start to the show.

“Chris picked up loads of fans when he appeared on Dave’s One Night Stand; he's supported Jack Whitehall, Russell Kane and Milton Jones on their national tours and he's just gone on his first solo UK tour, which was a big success."

York Press:

Amy Gledhill

Amy Gledhill takes next Thursday's middle spot, having done likewise at the Sitting Room's Leeds gig in January. "Amy absolutely stole the show that night," says Tom. "Blending intelligent deconstruction with pure silliness, her comedy is joyful and gloriously funny. She's one of my favourite emerging acts on the circuit.”

Marked as One To Watch by audiences and the comedy industry alike, Amy has been a finalist in the national Funny Women competition, joint winner of the Amused Moose Northern Final and runner-up in the Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year competition.

Stylishly shirted Yorkshireman Scott Bennett, who supported Michael McIntyre on a recent tour date, will be hosting the gig, for which tickets cost £10 from the Monkbar Hotel reception, in Monk Bar, or at sittingroomcomedy.com
