POPPLETON continued to struggle in Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League division one, going down 31-77 to York’s second team, who benefited from consistent scores from all three couples.

Pocklington 1 had a resounding win at Starbeck, Rebecca Hill and Vic Bland only dropping three games in the 81-27 victory.

Bishopthorpe suffered their first loss of the campaign, against Dunnington, for whom Emma Loten and Sue Sumner top scored.

York 1 thrashed David Lloyd 87-21 to climb to their familiar position at the top of the table, Jill Le Pla and Sasha Taylor including a 12-0 in their final rubber.

Castlegarth 2 and Fulford 1 remain unbeaten at the top of division two.

They recorded comprehensive wins over Dunnington seconds and Cliffe respectively, all three of the Wetherby club’s couples scoring 27 games.

Wigginton 1 were hampered by injury against Rufforth, losing 63-45.

Lorraine Peary and Lesley Bowling claimed 28 games to help Boston Spa to their first win of the season against Pocklington 2.

Wistow could only field two couples in their division three match at Rowntree Park and lost 81-27.

Fulford seconds stayed top after a hard-fought win at Tollerton, but Castlegarth 2 stayed in touch after beating struggling Appleton, whilst Copmanthorpe defeated Knareborough.

Bubwith and David Lloyd 2 continued to battle it out at the top of division four, Louise Smith and Anna Airaksinen taking 30 games in Bubwith’s demolition of Riccall.

Boston Spa 2 remained third after overcoming Poppleton seconds 56-52. Ann Morley and Lucy Collier notched 30 games to help Sutton defeat Dunnington 3rds, who are still seeking their first win of term.

Wigginton 2nds lead the way in division five, remaining undefeated after beating Cawood 60-48.

Julia Sykes and Andrene Watson bagged 27 games to help Bishopthorpe 2nds beat Cop 2, while Heworth overcame Knareborough 59-49.

Dunnington 4 finally got their season up and running in division six with a 62-46 victory at Appleton, captain Ann Murray and partner Jenny Rossington returning a 12-0 victory in the first rubber.

Fulford 3 remained top after a solid team performance saw them overcome Sheriff Hutton 72-36.

David Lloyd 4 continued their good start in division seven, Jean Leaver and Tina Miller teaming up to take 30 games in their 67-41 defeat of Wilberfoss 2.
