YORK'S Lord Mayor has "grown" her family tree with the help of the city's family history centre.
Lord Mayor Cllr Sonja Crisp was at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Acomb in January, and while she was there visited the church's Family History Centre.
Since then family history expert Jeff Walsh - at the suggestion of the church's President Bill Kimberling - has helped Cllr Crisp trace her family tree as far back as six to seven generations.
Newly discovered names and details for Cllr Crisp's ancestors were inscribed on an "Oak Tree" chart, expertly drawn up in calligraphy by Jeff’s daughter Diane Jackson. The framed chart was then presented to the Lord Mayor and her consort Ian Crisp.
The Family History Centre is open to the public and free to use, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, West Bank, Acomb Road.
