RORY BREMNER had top billing for this five-act charity gig, but it was fellow impressionist Jess Robinson who stole his thunder on Monday night.

Fittingly, there was a strike of lightning on the publicity flyer, coming down on David Cameron as he strode through water in wellies.

The show was in aid of flood victims in York, so it was a shame the theatre wasn't packed out (only 250 tickets were sold). It was a double shame because the two-hour performance was a hoot, with plenty of gags from veteran Leeds comedian Barry Cryer as well as newish-comer Lancastrian Katie Mulgrew (daughter of Jimmy Cricket), who mined her new-mum status until the last gem was unearthed.

Family and medical woes were the concerns of confident performer Rob Rouse, who painted a picture of a visit to his GP for an intimate examination in images no one will forget in a rush.

Bremner brought sheer class to the evening with his seamless transition into politicians of today and yesteryear. Cameron, Johnson and Farage are current victims, but we were also treated to a bit of Blair and Hague and a super-sinister Michael Howard. Oh joy!

But it was Jess Robinson who upstaged them all with her novel act of musical impersonations. Edith Piaf singing Bon Jovi, Lily Allen doing Pharrell Williams, Katherine Jenkins performing Bohemian Rhapsody, and a hilarious two-minute Kate Bush medley complete with odd-ball dancing. The singing mimic – the girl should go far. If she visits again, make sure to buy a ticket.
